Rotation is moving your tires to different positions on the car so they wear evenly, since the front and rear wear at different rates. Along with it we check tread depth across each tire, look for uneven wear that points to alignment or suspension issues, inspect for damage, and set every tire to the correct pressure — all done wherever you're parked.
Tires that never get rotated wear out unevenly and years early, which means buying tires more often than you should. Regular rotation and a quick inspection is the cheapest thing you can do to protect a tire investment, and the wear patterns often reveal alignment or suspension problems while they're still cheap to fix.
Rotate roughly every 5,000 to 7,000 miles, or whenever you notice the front tires wearing faster, a little steering-wheel vibration, or tread that looks uneven side to side. If you can't remember the last rotation, it's probably due.
